Our favorite messenger, WhatsApp is not just a messenger anymore. With the introduction of WhatsApp call, the features of sending voice notes, sharing images and videos etc, WhatsApp has become a versatile app for staying in touch with our loved ones. WhatsApp tends to introduce several features on a regular basis. However, most of us are aware of only a handful features on WhatsApp. In this article, we will share 5 amazing hidden features of WhatsApp that many of us may have overlooked.

hidden whatsapp features

Save Backup in Google Drive

Backup to Google Drive is one of the most underrated WhatsApp features. Most of us either hit ‘cancel’ or ‘remind me later’ when WhatsApp asks us to save the backup in Google Drive. However, saving your chats in Google Drive may prove to be very helpful and here’s why:

  • If you delete WhatsApp or lose your phone, you can restore all your chats from here.
  • You can save all the media files in Google drive as well, and delete the unnecessary ones from your phone. This increases storage.
  • You can backup daily, weekly, monthly or even yearly. But make sure you take your backups on Wifi.

Use Custom Notifications

We all have those WhatsApp groups that keep on buzzing 24/7. But reading hundreds of messages from all these groups or people is not always possible. Now you can set your priority by using custom notifications.

To use the custom notifications, just tap on the title of that particular group or contact. Now select “Custom Notifications”. From here you can select a notification tone, vibrate mode and pop up notifications style for that group or contact.

Mark Read/Unread

Your WhatsApp groups can clog your phone pretty fast. You may receive tons of messages in a short time. But does that mean that you have to read every single message of every conversation? Not at all!

Now you can simply mark the message as Read or Unread with a couple of clicks. You do not have to go through every message. All you need to do is tap and hold the conversation for a couple of seconds and an option menu will appear on top. Click on it and select Mark as Read or Mark as Unread.

Format Texts

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature. Now you can format the text too. You can make your text bold, italic, strikethrough etc. Following are some of the text format options:

  • To make text bold, use * before and at the end of your text. E.g. *your text*.
  • For italics, use this syntax: _your text_
  • For strikethrough: ~strikethrough~
  • You can also use combinations like, _*bold and italic*_

Star Mark a message

Some conversations are more important than others e.g. an emotional message from your mother or a proposal from your boyfriend. WhatsApp holds several of your precious messages. But how can you get back to them amidst the pile of other chats?

You can star mark the important messages. All you need to do is to click and hold that particular message and a star will appear on top of the chat. Just hit that star and Voila! Never lose those favorite messages again!

We hope you will find these hidden features of WhatsApp very useful and handy.
