In case you fancy watching movies with the subtitles, you would have definitely bumped into the out-of-sync subtitles. First and foremost, you should know that there are two types of subtitles. First one is the hard coded one. These subtitles come embedded with the movie. You cannot adjust these subtitles at all. If they get out-of-sync, you cannot synchronize them back. The second type of subtitles come as stand alone file. You can delay or speed-up the subtitles in this case.

To delay or speed-up the subtitles in VLC Player, you can use the short cut keys “G” and “H”.

To delay a subtitle: Press H on your keyboard. The subtitle will get delayed by 50 milliseconds, when you press the H key once. You can keep pressing the H key repeatedly to delay the subtitle as much as you want.

To speed up a subtitle: For this use the G key on your keyboard. Using the G key will delay your subtitles in negative. This will result in speeding up the appearance of subtitles. This speed-up will happen by factors of 50 milliseconds too.

I hope from this article you now know how to delay and speed-up the subtitles in VLC player. You will not have to download many subtitle files just because they were not synchronized. You can synchronize the subtitles for your movies using the G and H keys as explained above.
