You should turn these background apps off so that they do not use your system’s resources. To turn these background apps off, click on Start, then click Settings, then click Privacy. 3. Disable the Unnecessary Startup Programs

If you want to make your Windows 10 run faster, do not forget disabling those startup programs which you do not use that much. Such programs are only wasting your computer’s resources. Disabling such programs doesn’t uninstall them permanently. You can always use these programs by launching them later. But removing them from the startup will definitely give a boost to your computer’s performance. To disable the unnecessary programs from the startup, go to your Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc or by right clicking on the bottom right corner of your screen.

4. Turn Off the Animations and Visual Effects

Windows 10 comes loaded with some slick visual effects and animations. This is one of the best features of Windows 10. But in the meantime, these animations and visual effects drain your PC’s resources too. These visual effects may make your PC run slower. To make your PC run faster on Windows 10, you need to turn off some of these effects. You should do this in two steps. In the first step click Start and then click Settings. Then click Personalization and click on Colors. Turn off all the options on this screen. In the second step, type sysdm.cpl in Windows 10 search bar and hit Enter. This will launch System Properties dialog box. Go to the “Advanced” tab and click on “Settings”. Here you can set your PC for either the best performance, best visual effects or something in between. We recommend that you click on “custom” and do the settings as shown in the following picture.

5. Turn On the Fast Startup

One of the neatest features in Windows 10 is the Fast Startup. You will notice a tremendous difference in the booting speed of your PC, if you turn this feature on. When this feature is turned on, Windows will stop dumping everything from the RAM whenever you turn your PC off. Instead, Windows will save an image file of your loaded kernels and drivers. Later, when you turn your PC on again, the Windows will boot faster. To turn this feature on, type “power options” in the Windows 10 search bar and hit Enter. Click on “Choose what the power button does”. Then click on the link that says “Change settings that are currently unavailable.” Enable the “Turn on fast startup” in the shutdown settings.

6. Troubleshoot Using the Windows Troubleshooter

Windows 10 comes with a troubleshooter that will help you find the shortcuts or files that you do not use that often. Troubleshooter will also help you discover other performance issues. To launch the Windows Troubleshooter, type “troubleshooting” in the Windows 10 search bar. Then click on the “Troubleshooting control panel” icon. In the “System and Security” section, click “Run Maintenance Tasks”. Click “Next” on the new screen that appears. Windows Troubleshooter will now do its job of finding and letting you know about any performance issues that it finds. This will also help make Windows 10 faster.

7. Remove the Adware and Malware

Adware and Malware can make your PC very slow. If you scan and remove these adware and malware, your Windows 10 will run surprisingly faster. To get rid of these malware, you can use Microsoft’s anti-malware called Windows Defender. Just type “Windows Defender” in the search box and hit Enter. Then click Scan Now. Windows Defender will start looking for the malware on your PC and will get rid of any that it finds. You can also use some third party anti-malware programs to do this job too.
